In detail
Three things the table cannot carry.
Two different problems
Case management answers 'what is the state of this matter and who owes what'. Evidentiary assembly answers 'does this record demonstrate the beneficiary satisfies 8 CFR 204.5(h)(3)(v), and can an adjudicator find the pages that show it in ten seconds'. Both matter. They are not the same system, and a tool that tried to be both well would be worse at each.
Where template generation stops
Merge-field templates are excellent for documents whose structure is fixed and whose variables are known — engagement letters, G-28s, receipt confirmations. A cover letter is not that document. Its structure depends on which criteria the record supports, and its citations depend on where exhibits landed in a binder that does not exist until assembly runs.
The practical arrangement
Keep the matter in Docketwise or Clio. Let client uploads land there. Connect Docket Build so those documents flow into assembly, and let the finished binder, index and cover letter write back to the matter file. Nobody changes where they look for things, and the mechanical layer moves off the paralegal's desk.
